Get ready to rev up your senses at Full Throttle Ranch, where history meets vibrant new beginnings! Originally opened as Buttai Barn in October 1982, the barn sprang to life when Gary Madison needed a fresh start after his job as a Meat Inspector at the Newcastle Abattoir went up in smoke.
Gary and Marilyn's grand opening night was memorable—no doors, no windows, and they were still sweeping sawdust off the floor! But that didn’t stop them. With an abundance of coleslaw that could serve a thousand, the founders dove headfirst into the catering world—blunders and all.
By Christmas 1982, they had transformed their humble beginnings into a lively venue, drawing crowds of 300 eager dance enthusiasts every Friday and Saturday, grooving to the lively tunes of local bush bands like Rum Culls, Bushman’s Axe, and Ironbark. The dance floor was alive with Irish reels and set dances, where everyone lost themselves in the joy of the moment!
As time marched on, Buttai Barn welcomed even bigger crowds and well-known artists like John Williamson, Graeme Connors, Eric Bogle, Redgum and The Fureys for unforgettable concerts.
In the spirit of innovation, our founders introduced seniors’ lunches and fun-filled Australiana Days for primary school kids, complete with songs, slides, and hayrides where kids hung off the tractor-trailer—what a sight that was!
A New Chapter
After 38 legendary years, it was time for a new chapter, and in stepped Mick & Sara! With a splash of creativity and a passion for Southern American Culture, they’ve transformed the ranch into the electrifying FULL THROTTLE RANCH you see today! Celebrating the old with the new in its brand new chapter.
Mick & Sara have merged their award-winning American BBQ expertise thanks to Full Throttle BBQ cafe and their famous low n’ slow brisket meat pies which has won numerous accolades. Not to mention their flair for classic cars (courtesy of Full Throttle Garage) to create an unbeatable atmosphere.
Expect live music, the southern BBQ experience of a lifetime from one of the largest meat smokers in the southern hemisphere. Seriously, it can smoke up to a TON of mouthwatering meat at once!, plus an incredible selection of drinks—from premium wines and craft beers to refreshing homemade moonshine, ice-cold brews on tap and their famous whiskey bar!!
Join us on our sprawling deck that accommodates up to 200 guests or unwind in our cozy beer garden, atmospheric Buffalo Room, play Billards or relax by the Pit.
